A throw tech, also known as a tech or throw escape is a method of breaking out of throws. It was first introduced in Street Fighter III and has appeared in many fighting games since.
Although the execution varies by game, the command is usually the same command used to perform a throw. When performed at close to the exact same moment the opponent attempts a throw, instead of being thrown, both fighters will be pushed back an equal amount of distance. Some games will also award the player with some Frame Advantage if done with precise timing. Some games will also limit when a throw tech can be performed. For example, most Street Fighter games will disallow the player from performing a throw tech if they were grabbed during an attack animation.
