Anyone who's been in the chat will probably have seen me post up a link to the M.U.G.E.N Arcade's Final Destination article every so often to 'gauge opinions', though I never did get much feedback on that...
Basically, the stage article layout we have now cannot work, given how every stage version's data is crammed into a single infobox. In the past, I'd post up a poll if I was suggesting a change to the wiki's layout and/or formatting, and ask you to vote on whether or not you wanted the change to be implemented, but with the stage article layout, it's something that has to change, regardless of whether or not you want it to; this is why I'm asking for your opinions on the proposed new layout and why they're so important, as I can alter it according to your feedback.
So what does the new layout look like? For those who never saw my linkage to the Arcade's Final Destination article, click here.
Hardly looks any different, right? Let's go over a quick run-down of the changes:
- Main infobox now only lists the creator(s) and download link(s).
- Stage data has been shifted to individual infoboxes placed under each section.
- Background music is now integrated into the stage version infoboxes, removing the need for a 'background music' section.
- The Music parameter is where the music file is placed; it is no longer a yes/no parameter.
- Stages that contain multiple background musics will make use of an 'additional music' section, where anything but the default music track is placed.
- Each stage version has its own 'videos' section as opposed to having a giant one at the end of the article containing a jumbled mishmash of videos.
So what's been added?
- Stage preview in the stage version infobox, with no lifebars or characters visible.
- Additional parameters have been added: MusicDesc, AltMusic, Parallax, Zoomin, Zoomout, Rescord, Compatibility and Zoom.
- MusicDesc is where the music file's description goes. It is what you would normally write under the 'background music' section, but without the whole 'the music used is...'.
- AltMusic is for documenting any additional music that comes with the stage. It's basically a combination of Music and MusicDesc, but a bit messier in the code as a result of everything being on one line.
- Parallax is a yes/no parameter denoting whether or not the stage has parallax features.
- Zoomin and Zoomout refer to the zoomin and zoomout .def parameters, respectively; they are hidden by default, but can be made visible using the
|Zoom = 1
parameter. - The Rescord parameter functions exactly as it does in the character version infobox, allowing you to change 'resolution' to 'localcoord'.
- Compatibility denotes M.U.G.E.N version compatibility, but only supports the values of Win, 1.0, 1.0+ and 1.1, and using anything else will display the mouseover text of 'invalid parameter'. If the stage has no specific compatibility, then this parameter isn't needed.
- As mentioned above, setting the Zoom parameter's value to 1 will show the Zoom in and Zoom out sections of the infobox, as they are hidden by default.
For those of you who have been with us for a long time, you may remember something similar to this before we moved over to our current layout for whatever reason that was.
Now, what I've shown you can all change depending on your feedback; nothing is set in stone at this point, outside of the fact that the layout will change. Post your opinions in the comments and let's see what we can do to improve our current stage article layout!
