Not to be confused with Hit Stun and Block Stun.

Move can stun or make opponent dizzy

Stun

Lilith has stunned Homer Simpson

Stun is a mechanic first appearing in Street Fighter II and has become a staple mechanic of many other fighting games since.

In addition to regular damage, each character's attack will also deal stun damage to the opponent. This stun damage is added to the opponent's stun gauge. Once this gauge is full, the opponent will become stunned once they wake up from a knock down, leaving them completely vulnerable to attack for a short time. After the character leaves this stun state, the stun gauge is reset back to 0. This system is used to discourage turtling by punishing players who block attacks too often without attacking back. In the Super Smash Bros. series, characters can also enter a stun state by holding their shield up for too long without giving it time to recharge.

In M.U.G.E.N, some characters will be able to inflict and receive stun damage while others will not. This is mostly dependent on the gameplay that the character is trying to emulate. Some characters also have Specials or Hypers that can inflict stun-like states immediately on hit, such as a Focus Attack's Crumple state.

Capture[]

Move traps the opponent for a set duration

Capture is a unique version of stunning the opponent that, instead of putting the opponent in a dizzy state, traps the opponent in a prolonged hitstun. The most well known example of this variation is Spider-Man's Web Ball.
