Spelunker is a miner from the surprisingly difficult NES game of the same name. He's also known to die really easily from barely dangerous things such as water, steam, guano, falling really short heights, and ghosts. He also appeared in an anime, where he was a teacher. He is regarded to be the weakest game character ever. Spelunker also was in the Nijikaku project, as well as two more versions: Minnade Spelunker, and Spelunker Sensei. His most recent appearance was in the PS3 PSN exclusive remake of the original NES Spelunker.
In M.U.G.E.N, Spelunker has been made by Hanma and Hoihoi. There is another version that was made for the Nijikaku Project.
A version of Spelunker has been made for Nijikaku, having a Shotoclone-based gameplay. A interesting trait is that if Normal Spelunker does anything aside from walking, blocking, basic attacks, and his Gun hyper, he dies. Fortunately, he has 29 lives (actually 30, but he loses one in his intro), but they can be burned through easily with attacks with multiple hits. Minnade Spelunker is like the one mentioned above, but has a normal health system and loses all Hypers except for a new one: cloning himself. The clones can hurt everyone on screen, including Spelunker, which makes it for the most part hard to use. Sensei Spelunker has a Raging Demon and plays with a normal health system, as well as changed Hypers.
