Origin

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Devo the Cursed (Officially localized as Soul Sacrifice and as D'Bo in Heritage for the Future) is a minor antagonist from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders.

Devo is a Native American shaman who is also a feared international assassin. His preferred method of assassination is highly unusual in that he first goads his targets into making the first move on him without making any effort to defend himself, hence the numerous amount of scars on his body; however, this strategy is merely a way for Devo to build up his hatred of the target. After he sustains enough bodily injury, he will then flee the scene, where he will then commence the second part of his assassinations, which involve the use of his Stand, Ebony Devil.

Ebony Devil allows Devo to convert his own hatred into energy, with more lethal wounds being inflicted on him resulting in more intense hatred and, thus, greater amounts of energy being generated. Using Ebony Devil, Devo is able to transfer that energy to an inanimate doll that his Stand is able to possess; the more energy transferred to the doll, the more sadistic and brutal Ebony Devil becomes in dealing the killing blow to his victim. As a result of this strategy, his victims are said to have died as the result of a horrific curse rather than as the result of a direct assassination.

In M.U.G.E.N, Devo has been made by a few authors, such as Nimame.

Like in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future, Devo's Stand functions differently than that of other characters with the mechanic. Instead of his Stand being attached to him, it is a separate entity which is activated whenever Devo uses a special attack or whenever the button to activate his stand is pressed, which switches the player's control over to the doll itself. On his own, Devo is not very powerful and neither is the doll, but utilized together they can become quite a threat.

As a result of this unusual mechanic, Devo is fairly difficult to learn how to play, but is capable of easily catching opponents off guard through sudden ambushes from behind with the doll and setting up situations which could prove advantageous for Devo. However, he is completely vulnerable while controlling the doll, and with two potential targets for the opponent to hit, they have the potential to be annihilated very quickly if both of them are cornered, but in order to balance this his defense is above average.

His AI is fairly weak, but will frequently switch between controlling Devo and the doll.
