This iteration of D! is The King of Fighters 2002: UM-styled, and thus sports mechanics such as the Guard Cancel and Max Mode; an interesting feature in D!'s array of techniques is a move that powers up any of his other Specials.
Heavy D! is a 6 button character, using (A), (B), (X) and (Y) as attack buttons, (Z) as a shortcut to (A)+(X) (ダウン回避) and (C) as a shortcut to (B)+(Y) (Blow back attack); none of D!'s attacks involve his feet, instead always using his hands to fight.
D! is KoF2002UM-styled, and has several mechanics from said game: A Blow back attack, useful for knocking opponents down, a Roll for dodging incoming attacks, a Guard Cancel that, in exchange of 1000 Power, allows the character to break out of Block Stun, and a Max Mode system, that allows cancelling certain Normals and Specials, as well as reducing the Power cost of Hypers.
D! has no (long-ranged) projectiles on his moveset, being limited to punches and short-ranged ones; to circumvent this problem, some of his attacks, such as R・S・D and ダッキングコンビネーション, can be used to approach the opponent in a more safer way than running; D! also has access to シャドー, a move that powers up whichever Special is used after it, enhancing distance covered, damage and/or number of hits; amongst D!'s other power up moves are D・シャドー, a move that enables the シャドー effect for 10 seconds, and D・スクランブル, a move that makes R・S・D, ダッキングコンビネーション and ダンシングビート become コークスクリューブロー, アクセルラッシュ and クレイジーパンチャー respectively once they hit.
D! has no A.I., and thus uses the engine's default, performing random Normals and barely using his Specials or Hypers.
