Originally released at the end of 2005, this god of thunder is based on the classic Marvel Comics incarnation and uses all the powers depicted in those comics. Asgard's mighty warrior's appearance here was made years before Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and contains different moves from said game as a result.
Thor is a six-button Marvel vs Capcom character, with some custom features. Thor has many mechanics and features as its disposal, with abilities such as Super Jump, Chain Combos, Aerial Combos, Hyper Combos and a Level 3 hyper.
Thor has a wide pool of Special Attacks, most of which do decent damage. Thor has seven Specials in total and five normal Hypers. It also has a level 3 Hyper where its Asgardian fellows are summoned for a massive attack to the adversary. Its flight mode can also be canceled into aerial Specials like Gungnir Dive or Aesir Missile. Thor's hammer (Mjolnir) can be charged with lightning when holding the punch buttons and it can be launched doing much more damage than a normal version of the same move.
However, some Specials, even Hypers, are rather safe to use, due to their high priority. Otherwise, there aren't any possible infinite combos with this character, making it mostly balanced.
However, many would say different when fighting against Thor. Its custom A.I. is aggressive, and is quite fond of combos and Hypers. It is used to performing aerial combos like a MvsC character too often. The A.I. will also instantly exploit the level 3 Hyper whenever the Power bar is filled and it's near impossible to punish this attack, since it's an unblockable move, so jumping over Thor it's the only way to avoid it.
