SaltyBet (also known as Salty's Dream Cast Casino) is a betting site where users may bet fake money on the outcomes of A.I.-controlled M.U.G.E.N battles. The fights are broadcasted through Twitch 24/7, and features thousands of characters and stages.

SaltyBet is one of the most popular and active M.U.G.E.N-related websites, with over 37 million views on its Twitch stream as of September 2021, and hundreds of people watching at any given time.[2] SaltyBet has also been the subject of articles on numerous gaming websites, including PC Gamer[3], Eurogamer[4], and Destructoid[5] among others, as well as the subject of an academic paper by students at Montana State University[6].

Gameplay[]

After creating an account on the SaltyBet website, users are given $400 in "Salty Bucks", the site's proprietary fake money, to place bets with. Players are given a short window to bet on one of two sides, red and blue (representing the sides of a M.U.G.E.N matchup). Without prior knowledge of the characters being bet on, regular players only get the character's idle stance, intro animation, and name to decide what to bet on. If they successfully bet the outcome of a match, they will receive a payout based on how much they bet as well as how much the other side bet.[7]

Tiers[]

Characters are organized by "tiers", in order from weakest to strongest: P-B-A-S-X, where P-tier characters are characters that can barely attack or are extremely easy to K.O., while X-tier characters are egregiously cheap characters or low-level cheapies. Characters are then matched to other characters within their tier, though certain game modes can allow for matchups with characters in different tiers. In order for a character to move a tier, they must win or lose 15 matches in a row.

Salty Illuminati[]

By purchasing a subscription using real money, a player can join what's known as the Salty Illuminati, which grants them several perks including the ability to view SaltyBet's full roster and character rankings, the ability to tweak a character's stats for a small fee in Salty Bucks, and the ability to request matches.
