Based on his design from A Link to the Past, this Link comes well-equipped with many of his trademark items such as a boomerang, various bombs, and elemental staffs (and even game-specific moves like a Moosh assist from Oracle of Ages/Seasons); he also incorporates mechanics from the Zelda series into his gameplay, having an inventory of items that determines his moveset and enemies dropping items such as hearts and bombs.
Link is a six-button character with a wide variety of attacks ranging from projectiles to grabs. The attacks that will be part of his moveset are partially decided by the choice of items that is proposed at the beginning of the fight (either having no items, a random choice of items or all of them at once). That's because Link disposes of a unique system where he'll be able to do certain attacks if he possesses the required items in his inventory (inventory that can be consulted anytime during the fight by pressing Ⓢ + ) and by choosing a certain set at the beginning of the match, certain items will be or will not be available, completely changing the fighting experience as a result. There is also a game mechanic implicating bottles (as can be seen by pressing Ⓢ + /) but which ultimately doesn't do anything as it is not properly implemented into the character. One of these items are the powder kegs that can be moved around the stage by pushing into them before they explode (and can even damage Link himself, like bombs).
By fighting an opponent, Link will generate items to collect from them. These range from rupees (who serves no purpose in the actual fight) to hearts (who gives back some Life) to magic jars (which gives some Power). It can also generate arrows and bombs which are required to trigger attacks needing them (as those consume one unit when pulled off each time). Link can be a strong adversary as his special attacks usually have a wide range, making them difficult to dodge. Link can also put the opponent into an infinite by repeatedly spamming the Hammer attack, juggling with the flying opponent in the process. Link can also become invisible for a time by using the Spooky mask. Some of his Hypers enhances his abilities by either making Link overall quicker with the Song of Time or by creating multiple Links with the Illusion Dancewho replicate the moves of the main one, multiplying the attacks that are pulled off as a result. These last until all power has been drained out.
Link's A.I. is not that strong, usually sticking to attacking the air or jumping around. It can however still be competent from times to times by using some of its specials. It won't uses at all Link's Hypers even if it has enough power. The main challenge is that Link will often block attacks using his shield, making him hard to damage the classic way.
