As a rather unexpected departure from most Touhou Project M.U.G.E.N characters, this version of the Moriya Shrine maiden plays akin to Marvel vs. Capcom 3, albeit still using effects from many of the series' fighting games. This leaves little room for projectile spam and overall cheapness.
Sanae uses six buttons, with all of the buttons being her Normals. Ⓐ is a launcher, Ⓑ summons strikers, as well as acting as a shortcut for Sanae's 3 Hypers, and Ⓒ is a dash. Sanae's gameplay is based off Marvel vs. Capcom 3, having many mechanics from the game.
In the air, Sanae is a threat, as she has easy to preform aerial raves and chainable combos. In addition most of her Specials are useable in the air. However, they aren't too safe and can't be comboed into. Sanae is projectile oriented, but not to the same levels as many other Touhou Project characters, making it more balanced. Two of her Hypers can cover the whole screen in terms of range, meaning that the opponent could be caught off guard.
Sanae has no custom A.I, making her rather unchallenging. However, fights against her could be tedious, as she blocks often and unexpectedly uses damaging Hypers and strikers.
