Guts is the protagonist of the 1989 manga Berserk, a dark fantasy set in a world inspired by medieval Europe. He is a gruff, cynical former mercenary known as the "Black Swordsman", wandering in a struggle between protecting those dear to him and setting off by himself.
Guts was born deserted from the corpse of his lynched mother before being adopted by Gambino and Shisu, who took him to their aid before the deterioration of their adopted family relationship. He was later captured and subjected to labor, imprisoned after being used as a ploy for an escape plan, but healed by the sacrifice of the flower spirit Chitch. His purpose in life is found upon joining the Band of the Falcon, whom he helped in the Hundred-Year War, but he becomes dissatisfied with the ideals of the leader, Griffith, and departs from the band later on. The Eclipse that followed his departure and a new distrust in Griffith leads him to set war on the God Hand and its apostles, but he later realizes that protecting his regressed lover is more important. Realizing this, he sets aside his motivation for revenge for finding trust in new companions, but still continues to tackle the threats he feels disturb his surroundings.
In M.U.G.E.N, Guts was created twice by OGGY. Both versions use customized sprites based on his media appearances. An edit of Guts also exists by Magno Cesar and Gui Santos, giving him gameplay similar to Infinite's characters.
Attacks involving Guts' sword are insanely long, giving him unfair reach in his attacks, most notable in his Specials. He also comes equipped with many unavoidable and generally hard to block moves. Many of his Hypers are near insta-kills for characters that have normal Defence or Life. This character was meant to be played, as he is very easy to use, but can be hard to fight against as he has many invincibility frames, and his A.I. takes advantage of them to prevent him from taking damage.
