Like all of J. NEWMAN's characters, this version of Toon Link lacks Specials and Hypers and has a lot of missing Normals, with no crouching Normals at all, making him incredibily difficult to use. While the sprites are custom, there are only 44 of them, they look very awkward and the animations have very few frames.

Gameplay[]

JNEWMANDuckermanTLinkIdle

Toon Link is a four-button character, using the A, X, Y and Z buttons to attack. However, the other buttons link to unused moves, as they play an animation when pressed but don't have attacking hitboxes. Like all of J. NEWMAN's characters, he lacks Specials and Hypers. He also has no crouching Normals at all, but for some reason, when an attack button is pressed while crouching, the character's hitboxes change. Whenever a button is pressed that links to an unused move, the character gains Power, but Power is completely useless to it because none of his moves use Power. He also gains Power alarmingly quickly, having a full Power bar after 2 or 3 attacks, though this is simply because his Power is set to 90.

Given how slow his attacks are, he has no comboability at all, being unable to chain any of his attacks. Because he has no Specials and Hypers, his moveset and options are incredibily limited. Most of his attacks deal little damage, further limiting his versatility. However, his aerial Z can hit multiple times and deal significantly more damage than his other attacks if timed properly. Some of his moves also have infinite priority.

Because his Life and Defence are lower than most characters', he can take significantly less damage than most characters before getting K.O.'d. In many of his animations, his hitboxes are larger than they should be, covering the entire sprite. His jumping velocities are very awkward, as his jumps are very floaty. The same applies to his Backwards Hop, which strangely causes the character to leap backward, covering a large distance.

He has no custom A.I. and uses the engine's default. Given how limited his moveset is and how slow his attacks are, it is an absolute pushover. Like other characters that use the default A.I., it moves or jumps around often and rarely attacks.
