Despite being an unarmed martial artist, Rei-Kugo has no problems with attacking her opponent from afar with a variety of Specials and Hypers, all of which are activated with the use of a single button. The character isn't without her problems however, as Rei-Kugo is unable to combo efficiently.
Rei is a three-button character with a rather unorthodox button layout, as all of her attacks are activated only by Ⓑ in conjunction with many directional motions; while using Ⓐ to jump and holding Ⓧ to block attacks, both of which completely replace the regular methods of jumping and blocking, although if Rei wishes to block low attacks she must still use in combination with Ⓐ.
Rei's main way of dealing damage is through basic combos, although none of Rei's attacks are able to chain into each other, it is possible to combo certain attacks into each other with relative ease, such as using Monkey Hand in conjunction with Monkey Fist. It is also possible to chain Specials into Hypers, such with the use of XinShanQuan and XuanYaLianShanQuan, which can lead to a large amount of damage being done to the opponent, although strict timing is needed.
Many of Rei-Kugo's attacks have Infinite Priority, giving her tremendous reach and making her difficult to approach, which isn't helped by said attacks having a rather high damage output; along with relatively low startup, giving her the ability to almost instantly punish an opponent's move. Rei's Hyper attacks are particularly powerful, with HuaLongTianShengZhi taking out almost a third of an average character's Life; which proves incredibly problematic, as Rei-Kugo gains power at an excessively fast rate, allowing her to use her devastating Hyper attacks very quickly.
Rei-Kugo's A.I. is custom, and particularly brutal, often applying pressure on her opponent by using different Specials depending on how far away she is, often using Squirrel Kick and SheXingQuan when at an appropriate distance. If Rei-Kugo acquires enough Power to use her Hyper attacks, she will attempt to combo into them, rather than simply using them when available.
