The once docile bakeneko gets her fighting face on as she shows the opponent her incredible skill at...boxing? One would think that Chen wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight without Ran at her side, but once she steps into the ring, a single chance is all she needs to land the knockout blow and pin the opponent to the ground. Honk it to 'em!

Gameplay[]

GomashioChenidle

Boxing Chen is a five-button character that visually only appears to use three buttons (X, Y, or Z), though B and C are also used to activate the attack this character's joke revolves around; by pressing any of the five buttons, a large hitbox will spawn around Boxing Chen for a split second before disappearing, though if it successfully connects with the opponent, they will be K.O.'d instantly. Although Boxing Chen's Normal Attacks are unable to connect with the opponent due to the joke attack's hitbox significantly out-prioritising them, the standard light to heavy cancel logic is still coded into them.

Boxing Chen uses the default A.I. provided by the M.U.G.E.N engine. Due to the A.I. being able to activate attacks without actually inputting anything, it is able to use Boxing Chen's Normals independently from the joke attack, though because the A.I. randomly processes all 11 buttons, it will still trigger the hitbox at a frequent rate.

Trivia[]

  • Boxing Chen was originally released as a April Fool's "alpha" version of the author's Chen.
    • Interestingly enough, if used against a character immune to custom states or if a single line of code is modified in the Chen_RP-Negative.st file, Boxing_Chen will function as a completely normal, albeit incomplete, version of the author's second version of Chen without the instant K.O. attack.
  • The concept behind the character, as well as her portrait and the sprites used in her instant K.O. attack, are both derived from walfas's boxing.swf[1] animation, which depicts Yukari Yakumo erroneously celebrating the holiday of Boxing Day by pitting her two shikigami, Ran Yakumo and Chen (in cat form), in a boxing match against each other; Chen emerges victorious by scoring a single round knockout due to Ran's reluctance to fight back.
  • The voices heard during the K.O. sequence are those of Jim "J.R." Ross, a ringside commentator for the WWE.
