Holding the title of "The Guy" comes with the expecation that the titleholder is strong and ruthless, and The Guy most certainly lives up to those expectations. With a variety of projectiles and assists, damage that hits like a truck, and multiple phases should one choose to go against his A.I., one can only imagine just how high his kill count has gotten. Do you have what it takes to earn the title of "The Guy", or will you simply be one more for his score?
Gameplay[]
The Guy is a six-button character, using for attacks and for assists. The strength of an attack is generally denoted by the button used to activate it, though this only applies to Normals and attributes of certain Specials, such as distance or speed. The Guy's movement mimics that of the creator's version of The Kid, meaning that The Guy can freely move left and right during his jumps, can influence how high his jumps go by holding for the desired length of time, and can fast-fall by pressing while in the air. The Guy's Power Bar will slowly fill itself. Interestingly, he also has a mild form of F2 debug key protection; attempting to press the key during the intro phases of the match will not affect his health, but pressing the key once the match begins will work as normal.
The Guy is able to chain his standing and crouching Normals in a linear fashion (Ⓐ -> Ⓑ -> Ⓒ), and is also able to chain his Ⓐ Normal into itself. The Guy can also cancel his Normals into his Specials or Hypers. He is not able to chain his aerial Normals due to all three attack buttons activating the same attack in the air (a two-sided kicking attack).
The Guy's Special attacks largely consist of projectiles, intended to prevent opponents from approaching and dealing damage, either by zoning them out or by stunning them for long enough for the Guy to distance himself. Energy Bullet is a Hadouken-like move that comes in three different speeds; unlike a Hadouken however, it does not cause any knockdown. Ground Attack has The Guy stomp either his hand or his feet onto the ground, causing the screen to shake and inflicting heavy hitstun on any grounded opponents. The attack can also directly damage opponents, though it has an extremely short range to do this, leaving The Guy potentially vulnerable. Jumping Stomp is essentially an upgraded version of Ground Attack that can be used in the air, though it is somewhat difficult to aim where exactly the attack will hit and it has a slightly longer startup time. Grenade Toss throws a grenade that, once it hits the floor, creates a brief wave of fire that can inflict soft knockdown. Interestingly, the grenade itself does not cause any knockdown, so a savvy opponent may try to deliberately get hit by the grenade to prevent knockdown.
In addition to his Specials, The Guy also has access to three assists, activated with the buttons. Delicious Fruit Striker is the weakest, firing a cherry from a random direction. If said direction happens to be from the side of the screen, the cherry's vertical position will be tracked to that of The Guy's, allowing him to have some indirect control of where the cherry will spawn from. Spike Striker is very similar to Delicious Fruit Spiker, but costs slightly more Power and deals more damage. Miniature Moon Striker costs the most Power to use, but in return drops a miniature version of the Moon that takes up a majority of the screen and deals quite a lot of damage.
With the exception of his assists, all of The Guy's Specials also have Hyper variants that can be activated by pressing in their command inputs; these Hyper variants are effectively EX moves, as they are upgraded versions of the Specials at the cost of Power. Energy Bullet becomes larger, Jumping Stomp and Ground Attack create a shockwave of dirt that travels across the floor of the stage, and Grenade Toss now throws three grenades instead of just one. The Guy's Assist buttons, , can also be used to activate upgraded versions of their respective moves, though they instead require pressing before pressing the assist's button. Fruit Rain causes a storm of cherries to rain from the top of the screen, Subterranean Spikes causes a wave of spikes to trail across the floor, and Colony Drop spawns a tracking marker, and then drops an unblockable Moon onto the player.
When fighting The Guy's A.I., he has three "phases" that affect his overall moveset. These phases are activated whenever The Guy drops down to 2/3rds and 1/3rd of his Life, indicated by The Guy teleporting to the center of the screen. These phases are exclusive to The Guy's A.I., and cannot be controlled or used by the player if they're playing as The Guy.
The first phase is identical to a player controlling The Guy, and the A.I. will use The Guy's moveset somewhat competently; it tends to use Ground Attack and Energy Bullet, but does not take advantage of his chaining ability or cancelling very well. The second phase is largely similar to the first, but his Energy Bullet becomes much larger and he gains access to a new variant of the move that fires two waves of five large bullets. Interestingly, the A.I. will not use as many Hypers during this phase. The third phase changes The Guy's gameplay completely, as he will stand still at the center of the screen and attempt to fire energy balls at the player, while a grenade constantly falls that covers most of the floor surrounding The Guy. These energy balls must be hit back at The Guy, who will exchange hits with the ball in a tennis-like fashion. If the energy ball hits The Guy, he will be stunned for a few seconds, giving the player a window to deal damage. Once his health reaches 0, The Guy will be knocked out and the match ends.
If the player is playing as fhqwhgads7's version of The Kid and manages to defeat The Guy's third phase, rather than simply knocking out The Guy, he will change into a completely different fighting style. The Guy smashes through the background of the stage, only to re-emerge as a giant head that fills nearly the entire screen and whose eyes slightly follow the player's location, initiating his fourth phase. In order to deal damage to The Guy from the fourth phase onwards, the player must hit The Guy's two eyeballs until both of them are bleeding; once this occurs, The Guy will advance to his next phase.
In this fourth phase, The Guy will alternate between firing two tracking fireballs from his eyes and unleashing a storm of cherries from the top of the screen. The Guy's fifth phase starts with him unleashing a rapid wave of fireballs in a sine-wave-like motion, before The Guy returns to firing fireballs from his eyes. This phase adds occasional ice balls, which can be destroyed by the player, but also have slight homing properties, as well as a spike wave that travels across the floor of the stage and the ability for The Guy to exhale a ton of fireballs. The sixth phase removes the fire breath and spike waves from the fifth phase, but adds two tracking spike projectiles that fire from The Guy's mouth, a boulder that constantly falls from the top of the screen, and an occasional tracking marker that causes the Moon to fall onto the player. Once the player defeats his sixth phase, The Guy will finally be knocked out.

Trivia[]
- The Guy's A.I.'s third phase mechanics are a reference to the fight with Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, where Link had to reflect energy balls into Ganondorf in a tennis-like fashion in order to stun him and deal damage.
