Origin

Pokémon

Bulbasaur is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon from the Pokémon series. It is the first stage of the Venusaur evolution family and the Grass type starter Pokémon of the Kanto region. It appears at #001 in both the Kanto and National Pokédexes.

Bulbasaur has a very noticeable bulb growing on its back that allows them to use many different Grass type moves by creating vines, leaves, seeds and powders, as well as absorbing sunlight.

Bulbasaur has been made for M.U.G.E.N by two unknown authors, Bruno_SS and AxKing. One unknown author's version (bulba) was edited by Pingurules.

Unknown Creator's bulba

BulbasaurUAIdle

Presumably the first version of Bulbasaur to exist, though under the name of "bulba", possibly because that's what Bulbasaur says in the anime. It is unknown who created bulba, as who ever did didn't leave a name under the 'Author's name' section in the .def file. Hitting the (Z)Button-z repeatedly will result in an infinite combo. It's palettes also seem glitchy.

Pingurules' bulba Edit

BulbasaurIdle

Pingurules has edited "bulba" in an attempt to make a better Bulbasaur character. While it retains the misplaced hitsparks and hyper portrait, it contains voices from the anime and fixes most of the problems from the original to make up for it. New sprites have been added for basic attacks and blocking, and allows basic air combos by giving Bulbasaur a launcher. Another plus is that the projectiles Bulbasaur uses are no longer spammable, and the Razor Leaf projectile follows a boomerang effect. Lastly, a new super was added (Synthesis) to give back some of Bulbasaur's life to add more variety to the character. Although it may not be quite spectacular, it is a great improvement over the original.

Another Unknown Bulbasaur

OUBulbasaurIdle

This other unknown Bulbasaur is a two button character whose sprites are from edited official art. It is made by the same person who made Squirtle and Charmander, all three of them playing near identically to each other. Like the other two, Bulbasaur cannot get up after being knocked down due to the last frame of the liedown animation lasting indefinitely.

Bulbasaur

Bruno_SS's version is arguably the most playable Bulbasaur for M.U.G.E.N. Like Bruno_SS's other characters, it has a Poké Ball as its icon, but no mugshot. Its gameplay consists of six buttons, the first three being regular attacks, the others being Special Attacks, such as Vine Whip, Razor Leaf, and SolarBeam.

The sprites are borrowed from Spriters Resource, and were originally made by JoshR. While decent in quality, it is relatively weak in power. The Special Moves, Vine Whip, Razor Leaf, and SolarBeam, are much stronger than the regular attacks, but require some Power to be used.

Ax's bulbasaur

AxBulbasaurIdle

This Bulbasaur, like Ax's Charizard, has four attacks done with (X)Button-x, (Y)Button-y, (A)Button-a and (B)Button-b, while (Z)Button-z and (C)Button-c are dash buttons which dash backwards/forwards depending on the direction Bulbasaur is facing. (X)Button-x is for bullet seed, (A)Button-a is for vine whip, (B)Button-b is for tackle, (Y)Button-y is for some kind of powder, and if the (Y)Button-y button is held for a bit then released, Bulbasaur will use razor leaf.
