Black Mage is a character that tries to go for a custom style based on the Super Smash Bros. series, being based on, and using sprites from, Super Smash Flash 2, complete with a Smash Attack mechanic. The character may seen hard to play at first, but can become a dangerous tool if on the right hands.
Black Mage is a six-button character, using Ⓐ as a roll/dodge, Ⓒ as a grab, Ⓑ to perform Smash Charge and for its Normals. The character hasn't got a good comboability, being limited to around 4 attacks per combo.
Black Mage's Fira, Thundara and Blizzara can be charged with Smash Charge, that just like a common Power charge mechanic; Those charged moves will become Firaga, Thundaga and Blizzaga, respectively. Fira is a Shoryuken-esque move, with varying properties depending on the button pressed; Thundara is a powerful and long-lasting thunder attack; Blizzara is a short-ranged attack that freezes hit opponents;
Black Mage has 5 Specials: the aforementioned Fira, Thundara and Blizzara, Meteor and Scythe; Meteor is a powerful projectile with slow startup that has a varying distance depending on which attack button is used; Scythe is an aerial-only move that may seem a simple scythe attack at first, but if the scythe hits the opponent when it's differently-coloured, a grim reaper will start following the opponent for 3 seconds, and then attack the opponent; The time the scythe becomes differently-coloured changes depending on the button press. Black Mage also has 3 Hypers: Quake, a slow but easy-to-hit attack that cannot be blocked low, Haste, a short-ranged autocombo, and Flare, an powerful but slow Hyper that takes half of the screen.
Black Mage has no A.I., and thus uses the engine's default, performing random attacks when up close and occasionally performing Smash Charge when away.
